After keeping its public in suspense by revealing only a few photos and information, Honda finally lifts the veil on its all-new CR-V. The reworked SUV is more interesting than ever, including a hybrid variant!
After the preview in June, we’re back with more details on its performance, design, dimensions and interior features.
2023 Honda CR-V: The Hybrid Has Arrived!
While our neighbors to the south already had a hybrid model, we were longing for it on our side of the border. Now it’s here: a Honda CR-V Hybrid Canada will be part of the 2023 lineup.
At the time of our last article, we were still waiting for official confirmation. Now we know that the Honda CR-V Hybrid will be equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine combined with two electric motors. This gives it a generous 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque!
The fuel consumption ratings of this model are yet to be revealed. Since the gasoline model is already one of the most economical on the market with a combined consumption of 7.7 L/100 km (front wheel drive), the hybrid model will be even more advantageous.
The gasoline model will still be part of the offer: it’s the same 1.5L 4-cylinder engine developing 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. However, the torque is optimized for quicker response, and the powertrain is quieter than before.
Styling Makeover
As we mentioned in our previous blog, the 2023 Honda CR-V styling has been redesigned without distorting it. Some of the highlights include:
- A wider grille
- A more muscular and wider shape
- 68.6 mm increase in length
- 40.6 mm longer wheelbase
In addition to being a little larger, it has more modern and sleeker features, with less curves than its predecessor.
Honda CR-V: Increased Length, Improved Comfort
Sometimes it’s interesting to look at the origins of a model to understand its purpose; in this case, the name choice stirs curiosity. What does CR-V stand for? In Japan, the acronym translates as “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle”, although elsewhere it translates as “Compact Recreational Vehicle”.
As the first etymology suggests, comfort is one of the salient aspects of the SUV. So, it’s not surprising that the automaker is focusing on a more spacious interior for this new generation! It offers more room to its passengers, especially those in the second row who benefit from enhanced generous legroom.
The new dimensions also have an impact on cargo space: the trunk now has a capacity of up to 1,112 L, including the space under the floor. The maximum capacity is 2,166 L, which is impressive for a compact SUV! As RPM reporter William Clavey wrote:
“The old CR-V was already among the most versatile in its class, and Honda is clearly trying to keep that lead.”
Honda: Abundant Technology
The interior of the new CR-V is similar to well-known models such as the HR-V and Civic. It comes with a full suite of infotainment technologies, including:
-
A 7- or 9-inch screen
-
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
-
Wireless charging
-
A 12-speaker Bose audio system
The instrumentation is also digitalized, and the center screen floats atop the dashboard, allowing you to easily view it while driving.
Safety is also on the menu with the Honda Sensing driver assistance technology package. This helps you adopt a safe drive with features like lane departure warning, lane departure assist, blind spot monitoring and more.
