Various publications dish out automotive awards throughout the year, but the one with potentially the most influence comes from the Los Angeles-based magazine and website, Motor Trend.
For 2015, the Honda CR-V has taken top honours for the publication's SUV/Utility vehicle of the year in a field of 19 models. With that many vehicles being judged, it makes it tough for any projections to be made, but it's safe to say that the CR-V was a surprise choice over heavyweights that included the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, Jeep Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Porsche Macan, and Subaru Outback.
“The 2015 Honda CR-V impressed our judges with its extensive list of delightful design and thoughtful engineering improvements,” said Motor Trend editor-in-chief Ed Loh.
Loh went on to point out that it was the CR-V's new 2.4-litre Earth Dreams four-cylinder engine coupled with a brand-new continuously variable transmission that made the biggest impact on the judges. The CR-V was also aided by the impressive amount of technological safety systems that's part of the Honda Sensing package including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, and Collision Mitigation Braking System to name a few.
To be in contention, the 19 SUV/Utility vehicles tested were either all-new or went through significant updates. Testing involved three stages that started with a weigh-in, followed by a thorough track test focused on acceleration, handling, and braking. Phase two consisted of three days of road and off-road driving through various terrains and traffic conditions. The last phase had the editorial staff deliberate over a variety of topics such as design, efficiency, safety, performance, and value.
“It is an honour to receive such a prestigious award from the expert staff at Motor Trend," said Dave Gardner, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Honda Canada. “Our engineers, planners, and dealers work hard to deliver class-leading products to our customers, and it's extremely rewarding to be recognized for that hard work.” VISIT ud at MONTREAL HONDA (LOMBARDI HONDA)
